‘Release innocent detainees’

ITANAGAR, Jun 6: In a joint representation submitted to Lower Siang Deputy Commissioner, the Galo Youth Organization (GYO), Galo Students’ Union (GSU) and the All Lower Siang District Students’ Union (ALSDSU) on Tuesday called for immediate release of the ‘detained’ GBs and Panchayat leaders of three Arunachali villages in connection with Monday’s Torajan firing incident along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

The organizations claimed that “the law enforcement forcefully arrested many innocent and wrongfully detained (them) at PS Likabali”. “As per the ground report, the innocent detainees including GBs and Panchayat leaders of three villages were neither present in Torajan village nor in their respective villages during the incident. As such they were attending a ‘Keba’ (meeting) at Gensi circle. And some of the detainees are not from the Torajan village and also they were completely unaware of the incident.”

Even though they suggest a free and fair investigation into the case, the organizations trio threatened to launch a democratic movement if the detainees are not released soon.
