Science & Technology Secy visits CoE for BRSD, Kimi

ITANAGAR, Jun 6: After assuming the charge of Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, GoAP, Repo Ronya paid his maiden visit to the Centre of Excellence for Bioresources and Sustainable Development (CoE for BRSD) at Kimin on Tuesday.

He was accompanied by APSCS&T Chairman Bamang Mangha, Papum Pare DC Cheechung Chukhu, Kimin ADC Bekir Nyorak, APSCS&T Joint Director Bamang Apo, ZPC Nabam Yakup and local ZPM Bamang Yayu. The visiting dignitaries along with the officers of district administration planted saplings in the CoE campus commemorating the World Environment Day.

Secretary Repo Ronya lauded the efforts made by the scientists and officers of the CoE for achieving excellence in the field of R&D on different aspects of bioresources through biotechnological interventions towards exploring newer and innovative means of its sustainable utilization. He advised the young budding scientists to work hard with innovative R&D endeavours to achieve their goals towards socio-techno-economic upliftment of the tribal populace of Arunachal Pradesh.

DC Cheechung Chukhu stated that the Centre has come up so quickly to this level in a short period of 5 years. This could be a role model in terms of infrastructure, research facilities with relevant resources for the researchers of Arunachal Pradesh and the adjoining states.

The APSCS&T Chairman emphasized the importance of science & technology in achieving sustainable development in the State. He said that this first-of-its-kind establishment at Kimin has tremendous potential to lead the state of Arunachal Pradesh in bioresources conservation and sustainable development.

The Director, DBT-APSCS&T CoE for BRSD Dr Debajit Mahanta earlier briefed the dignitaries on various ongoing activities and achievements made by the CoE including the development made in the field of orchid, aromatic plants and banana fibre and its applications vertical so on and so forth since October 2018. The CoE has created the state-of-the-art Orchidarium towards conservation and multiplication of priority RET orchid species along with its satellite units in different districts with a view to promoting orchid-based entrepreneurship in rural areas of the state.
