ITANAGAR, Sep 16: A cloudburst in Lhallung village near Mechukha in Shi-Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh triggered devastating flood on Saturday morning, causing significant damage to the area, official sources said.
Atleast two hydel stations have been damaged, disrupting the electricity supply to Mechukha township and its adjoining areas. Also, the floodwater ravaged agricultural fields, standing crops, houses, water supply and livestock. However, no loss of human life was reported.
Expressing serious concern over the devastations wreaked by the sudden cloudburst in his home constituency, State Assembly Speaker and local MLA Pasang Dorjee Sona instructed the Shi-Yomi district administration to take immediate action and provide all possible help to the affected families.
He also instructed the district administration to immediately assess the extent of the property damages, besides directing the Power and Public Health Engineering & Water Supply departments to initiate the restoration process as soon as possible.
The Speaker also over phone communicated the urgency of the situation to Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister in-charge of Power Chowna Mein, seeking their assistance to address this crisis.
The hydel stations located in Lhallung village serve as the lifeline for electricity supply for Mechukha township and its adjoining areas, sources said. (UNI)
