Central officials visit Vibrant villages

TAWANG, Sep 17: Harit Kumar Shakya and Anil Kumar Meena, Under Secretaries, Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) Cell, Dept of Agriculture, Co-operation and Farmers' Welfare, Govt of India, along with Nawang Lobsang, Director of Horticulture and Benjamin Pertin, District Horticulture Officer (HQ), Govt of Arunachal Pradesh visited Vibrant villages nearby the Tawang district headquarters viz. Audung, Bekhar Kitpi and T-Gompa on Friday and Saturday.

During their visit, DHO (Tawang) Safior Rahman organized field visit programmes to help central officials monitor the different horticulture gardens (Kiwi, walnut, vegetable etc) established under the financial assistance from the MIDH in the farmers' field in the above Vibrant villages. After the visit, they interacted with a group of farmers and villagers about the Government of India sponsored schemes with special emphasis on agriculture and allied sectors and the assistance that the farmers are availing.

They also noted the issues raised by the farmers, especially the menace of wild animals and marketing of their produces. The secretaries assured the farmers to keep provision of solar-powered fences in the MIDH programmes to protect the gardens from the menace of wild animals. They also advised the Horticulture department to educate the farmers for marketing of their produces through forward and backward linkages by forming Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs).
