CoA-hosted three-day program concludes, benefits 50 farmers

ITANAGAR, Feb 12: The Multi Technology Centre and Vocational Training Centre, College of Agriculture (CoA), CAU (Imphal), Pasighat organized a three-day programme on ‘Seed distribution cum line sowing method demonstration of hybrid maize’ at Sika Bamin village under Sille-Oyan circle of East Siang district that concluded on Thursday last. Conducted under the chairmanship of Dr A K Tripathi, Dean College of Agriculture, the programme was funded by ICAR-Indian Institute of Maize Research, Ludhiana, Punjab and saw the participation of a total of 50 farmers of Sika Bamin village.

A hybrid seed maize, LQMH-I which is known as quality protein maize (QPM) of about 140 kg, as well as fertilizer urea and DAP was distributed among seven progressive farmers for frontline demonstration (FLD) of higher yield.

Oyin Yirang, YP-I under this project, gave brief information about soil preparation and nutrient management of hybrid maize.

Dr Rajib Das, PI and organizing secretary of the programme, addressed the farmers on scientific cultivation practices of hybrid maize for improving production and productivity. He also demonstrated the line sowing method of hybrid maize to the farmers.

Meanwhile, the farmers have appreciated the whole programme and showed their keen interest in taking up scientific cultivation practices of hybrid maize for improving the production and productivity.
