DNGC holds Cancer Awareness Workshop

ITANAGAR, Feb 22: A Cancer Awareness Workshop under the banner of ‘Cancer Mukt Jagrukta Abhiyan- Arunachal Pradesh’, organized by Dera Natung Govt College, Itanagar in collaboration with the Mon Indigenous Cultural and Welfare Society (MICWS) and Chhabi Sahayog Foundation, and sponsored by Sinchaji Foundation, Arunachal Pradesh, was held at the DNGC conference hall here today.

The event, comprising two sessions, was graced by Tsering Wangmu Sinchaji (Sinchaji Foundation chairperson), Dr MQ Khan (Principal DNGC), two resource persons - Dr Vishal Vinay Jha (Wadia Hospital, Mumbai) and Dr Priyanka Semwal (AIIMS, Rishikesh), and many other dignitaries.

Over 500 students including NSS volunteers of DNGC actively participated in the key event.

Dr Khan, in his speech, exhorted the students to be health conscious and remain aware about the hazardous and deadly diseases like cancer, diabetes, etc. He added saying “cancer is preventable only through early detection”.

Emphasizing the students to imbibe good habits and to avoid taking cancer causing items/activities like smoking, gutka, betelnut, alcohol, etc, the DNGC Principal exhorted the students to spread awareness about cancer among the people, especially those residing in remote areas of the State.

Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, Sinchaji highlighted the origin of Sinchaji foundation, and its noble initiatives. She added that the organization is committed to perform the task of lending hands to the needy people of the State, especially to cancer patients.

Dr Jha talked about cancer - its types, causes, symptoms, prevention and treatment through a PPT. He also interacted with the students and discussed various things related to the deadly disease.

Dr Semwal, in a secret interaction session with the female students, discussed various health related problems faced by women.

The conduct of two tests - Pre and Post – was also shown during the programme, which was coordinated by Botem Moyong, Asstt Professor Mathematics and Phuntso Gombu, Asstt Professor Chemistry of DNGC.
