ITANAGAR, Apr 2: In a bid to encourage farmers to adopt alternative crops to paddy, Krishi Vigyan Kendra East Kameng, Pampoli conducted a one day training programme on ‘Crop Diversification’ at Watte village under Seppa circle in East Kameng district on Tuesday.
The main objective of the programme was to impart knowledge and create awareness about the importance and role of crop diversification, a pilot project, for sustainable and profitable agriculture.
Dr M C Debnath, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK East Kameng, highlighted the basics and benefits of crop diversification, instead of paddy monocropping which is predominant in the area.
During the training programme, an important topic ‘System of Rice Intensification’ was also covered through a demonstration by Dr W P Devi, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy). This was followed by a detailed discussion on ‘Integrated Nutrient Management in Kharif Maize’ by A K Pandey, Subject Matter Specialist (Soil Science).
The programme concluded with distribution of inputs (seeds of maize crop, Nano-urea and manures). Altogether, 41 farmers of the village participated and benefitted from the programme.
