Puroiks urged to preserve, promote their traditional practices for posterity

PALIN, Apr 26: The 3rd joint Gumkum Gumpa festival of the Puroik community was celebrated at Palin, Kra Daadi district with a five-day-long programme starting from April 22.

Attending the concluding day’s celebration on Friday, Kra Daadi Deputy Commissioner Sunny K Singh urged the Puroik brethren to preserve and promote their traditional practices through documentation for the posterity. He also hailed the rich cultural diversity of the tribal communities who maintain the best unity and respect among themselves.

Earlier, the festival celebration committee chairman Siji Punung said that Gumkum Gumpa, the non-ritual festival, is being celebrated aimed at re-grouping the scattered Puriok community members staying in different parts of Arunachal Pradesh.

During the event, he submitted a three-point memorandum to the DC regarding the allotment of festival ground, grant of local festival fund, and job reservation for the community.

Like any other festival, cultural programmes, games and sports were the main attractions of the celebration. 

The 3rd joint Gumkum Gumpa festival celebration had the enthusiastic participation of the community members from Kurung Kumey, East Kameng and Kra Daadi districts.

Among others, Chambang Circle Officer Riba Gyadi also attended the festival. (DIPRO)
