Eying on revival of ‘dying’ tradition & culture, online contests dot the start of Capital Dree Golden Jubilee celebration

ITANAGAR, Apr 27: With a slew of events arranged by the Golden Jubilee Capital Complex Dree Festival Committee (GJ CCDFC) 2024 to mark the 50 years of Dree celebration in Itanagar Capital region through the revival of “dying” tradition & culture, the conduct of online competitions namely ‘Bwsi-Ayu’ and ‘Gangu-Ellu’ at the Dree ground, Papu Nallah near here today dotted the start of the Dree festival Golden Jubilee celebration.

As many as 51 participants of different age groups enthusiastically participated in the online competition, which was organized by the Daminda Committee of GJ CCDFC 2024.

While interacting with the media, GJ CCDFC 2024 Chairman Dani Sulu explained the significance of such age-old cultural practices coming into the form of competition.

Bwsi is a romantic lyrical folk song dedicated towards each other’s lovers. It is an expression of love towards each other by both genders.

Ayu is a unique recitation of descendants and ancestors of the Apatani community by the Apatani menfolk. Gangu Elu is an instrumental music played by the Apatani ladies. The musical instruments used are made by a simple rice straw/hay and a lean bamboo stick.

Hano Ripa, secretary Daminda Committee, stated that the competition has been initiated to preserve the dying tradition and culture.

Millo Halley Yanye emerged as the winner in the Bwsi competition. She was followed by Dani Riku Bunyi and Tilling Tadii Puhi as the first and second runner-up respectively.

In the Ayu competition, Koj Laling bagged the first position. Hage Tado came in second, while Habung Tade clinched the third place.

Racho Yakang Yassing won the top honour in the Gangu competition. Tanyang Kani Yapi was adjudged second and the third spot went to Tilling Dulley Yatung.

Results of the Ellu competition are awaited.
