Arunachal Lokayukta Chief passes away, CM mourns

ITANAGAR, Apr 27: Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta Chairperson Justice (Retd) Prasanta Kumar Saikia has passed away on Saturday in New Delhi, where he was undergoing treatment, sources said.

He was 70.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to the micro-blogging site X to mourn the demise of the State Lokayukta Chairperson.

“Deeply saddened” by the passing away of the Lokayukta Chairperson, the Chief Minister said, “A versatile personality, Justice Retired PK Saikia Ji's contributions to the service of society shall always be fondly remembered.”

“In this hour of grief, my condolences to his family and loved ones. May Lord Buddha give peace to his soul and strength to his near and dear ones to cope with the loss,” Khandu wrote in the post.

Born on 26th January, 1954, Saikia joined the Assam Judicial Service on 5th September, 1980 and has held various posts in Judicial Service including Special Judge, CBI, Guwahati and Registrar General, Gauhati High Court. 

He was elevated as Additional Judge of the Gauhati HC on 17th October, 2011 and retired on 25th January, 2016. He also served as a Member (Judicial), National Company Law Tribunal, Guwahati Bench.

He was sworn in as the first Chairperson of Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta on 27th June, 2019.
