ITANAGAR, Apr 27: The indigenous culture of Arunachal Pradesh got a shot in the arm through the spread of Nyedar Namlo movement to neighbouring state Assam, as ‘Donyi Polo Khumko’ (Nyedar Namlo) was set up at Dubia village under Gohpur circle in Biswanath district of Assam on Saturday.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Itanagar Smart City Development Corporation Ltd CEO Dahey Sangno congratulated the Nyishi community of the village for getting the Nyedar Namlo. He also congratulated the leaders of Nydar Namlo movement for spreading their reach to Assam.

Sangno advised the villagers to continue preserving their own traditional culture and dialect, which, he said, is the main identity of the Nyishi community.

He said religion and culture are like two sides of a coin and from culture religion was born. “But some sections of people are trying to destroy our religion but they will not succeed,” he added.

Sangno highlighted the history about how the Nyishi people settled in various locations of Assam and also had relation with the Ahom Kingdom, introduction of Possa (tax) system and even their relation with the British rulers post the Ahom Kingdom.

Emphasizing on how these days the Nyishi people from Assam are migrating to Arunachal Pradesh, he advised them “not to migrate if possible and focus on increasing their population”.

He appreciated the community for preserving/speaking Nyishi dialect and compared the situation with that of the present generation of Arunachal Pradesh. “Many of our Nyishi people are forgetting their culture due to over accommodation of other religions and culture,” he pointed out, and appealed for preserving their own culture and identity.

Also speaking, RT Tara, president of NNMR, appreciated the villagers for preserving and speaking Nyishi dialect.

He further appealed to the villagers to keep maintaining their dialect and culture.
