28 ‘vehicles’ hampering free flow of traffic removed by DTO

ITANAGAR, Jul 9: As per the direction of Capital Itanagar Deputy Commissioner Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, Capital DTO Techi Tukap and his team conducted a drive to remove all unattended vehicles parked haphazardly along NH-415 and sector roads that saw the removal of 28 vehicles.

The drive has been necessitated as the ‘parked’ vehicles were obstructing free flow of traffic.

The DTO had previously issued a notice on June 25 last directing the vehicle owners to remove their vehicles from roads and to move them to safer locations within seven days of the notice’s publication. Some vehicle owners responded and removed their vehicles and those who did not comply with it were directed to remove them on the spot by the team of DTO.

However, a few unattended off-road vehicles were subsequently removed, towed and seized and kept at the District Transport Office Complex Inter State Truck Terminal (ISTT) Lekhi under section 201 of CMV Act 1988, informed the DTO.

A total of 28 vehicles were removed from the roads during the drive, out of which 4 unclaimed vehicles have been towed and seized and are currently kept at DTO office complex.

In the meantime, the DTO has requested the vehicle owners to report to the DTO office, Lekhi at the earliest to claim their vehicles; otherwise, the vehicles will be auctioned following official procedures.

The DC has repeatedly appealed to residents not to park their vehicles haphazardly, as it not only obstructs traffic flow but also poses safety hazards for drivers and pedestrians, increasing the risk of accidents and also diminishes the city’s aesthetic beauty. She stated that the drive will continue in the coming days too. (DIPRO)
