ITANAGAR, Jul 10: On the occasion of 24th National Fish Farmers’ Day, Yamoty Pigyor, a progressive fish farmer from Shi-Yomi district has been awarded the ‘Best Fish Farmer Award 2024’ by Ranjit Sharma, Director of Extension Education in College of Fisheries, Tripura under Central Agricultural University, Imphal, in recognition of her contribution towards boosting trout culture. Another progressive fish farmer from Shi-Yomi, Kesang Naksanga has been felicitated by ICAR–Directorate of Cold Water Fisheries Research, Bhimtal (Uttarakhand).
The two progressive fish farmers had been nominated by the Directorate of Fisheries, GoAP for their remarkable performance in trout culture.
Cold water fisheries is gaining huge momentum in Arunachal Pradesh and fish farmers play an important role in expediting the production, thereby harnessing the cold water potential of the State, said Fisheries Director Joyshil Taba in a statement here.
Entrepreneurship in fisheries sector will go a long way in driving farmers towards self-dependence and increasing revenue of the State which will lead to a “self-reliant India”, he added.
