Two including APP constable arrested for drug peddling

ITANAGAR, Jul 10: Adhering to the theme “Zero Drugs Ziro”, the Ziro Police on Tuesday arrested a police constable with suspected contraband.

The alleged accused has been identified as Nali Namet, a constable with the Arunachal Pradesh Police, currently posted at Anini.

The arrest was made based on credible information that the alleged accused was peddling drugs in Ziro for quite some time, the Lower Subansiri SP said on Wednesday, adding that he was under police radar since receipt of the information about his involvement.

“Based on reliable information and technical surveillance, the alleged accused was intercepted at the Kardo nakka area by a police team led by SI J Yomcha under the overall supervision of Ziro SDPO and SP.

Upon search in presence of executive magistrate and independent witnesses, one plastic pouch containing suspected heroin, weighing 10.7 grams, was recovered from his possession. The plastic pouch was found concealed in a soap case.

Accordingly, a case was registered under appropriate sections of the NDPS Act and endorsed to SI K Yigam for investigation.

Following the arrest of the APP constable, another alleged accused Dith Tayeng was arrested for his involvement in peddling of contraband in the town. The arrest was executed at Naharlagun with active assistance from OC, Naharlagun PS and his team.

Further investigation is underway, the SP said.
