ITANAGAR, Jul 31: The Abu Hagung Ku Society (AHKS) has expressed discontentment with the clarification given by Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) in connection with the alleged sex racket case involving Kamle ZPC Biri Santi Nido.
The AHKS has served four days for APWWS president Kani Nada Maling to apologize and resign from the post. “Failure to address the demand would invite democratic procession against the (APWWS) president. We will also seek legal action against her,” AHKS president Gungli Tagang said while addressing a press conference here today.
Maintaining that AKHS is dissatisfied with the clarification given by the APWWS president, Tagang said that the Society rather felt humiliated and has decided to stick to the earlier demands until addressed.
He slammed the APWWS president for giving out a press release on the issue without verifying the facts, and said that the move was immature and a stunt to gain attention. “Because the house helper in the video never claimed that the ZPC was operating sex racket, neither did they use any such word like ‘sex racket’,” he said.
The AHKS president went on to say that the very intention of the APWWS was to sensationalize the issue by linking it to the recent inter-state sex racket busted by the state police. “If not, why did the APWWS not raise concern over the actual statement issued by the housekeeper alleging threat to Adivasi girls by the locals? Moreover, the house-helper had later changed her statement and said that the allegations leveled by her against the ZPC were false. The ZPC had on her part already termed the allegation as baseless and had clarified on the issue,” he stated.
The AHKS has also demanded the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) to initiate suo-moto cognizance against the APWWS for their ‘immature, insensitive and irresponsible act to tarnish the hard earned image of the ZPC’.
Justifying the demand for the resignation of APWWS president, AHKS general secretary Gora Lotak said that the condemnation letter issued by the president was an act of immaturity. He also said that it lacks any proper investigation on a personal level to claim involvement of the ZPC in the alleged sex racket.
“The act by the APWWS president was insensible. It indicates her incapability to take forward the good doings of the APWWS. Therefore, while condemning her statement, we demand her resignation for the true welfare of the woman community,” Lotak said.
Responding to the investigation by the APSCW on the issue, he said that the Society welcomes the investigation process. He, however, said that the damage done to the image of ZPC by the APWWS president can’t be ignored and insisted for the president to apologize and resign from her post.
“Besides, if the Women Commission finds involvement of the ZPC in the alleged sex racket, the Society is ready to apologize and welcome any legal punishment against the ZPC,” the AHKS GS said.
Earlier, during a press conference, the APWWS while clarifying the press statement had said that the Society had never accused Kamle ZPC Biri Santi Nido of involvement in the alleged sex racket. APWWS president Kani Nada Maling had stated that their statement and letter to the APSCW was misinterpreted.
