Ensure the spirit of Van Mahotsav lives on beyond the day of celebration’

RONO HILLS, Jul 31: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) in collaboration with the Department of Forest, Doimukh Range (GoAP) celebrated the 75th Van Mahotsav themed ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ at the RGU premises here today.

The event aimed to promote environmental consciousness and honour the nurturing spirit of motherhood through a plantation drive held at the university campus.

The celebration saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Prof Saket Kushwaha (Vice Chancellor), Dr N T Rikam (Registrar), Dr Bijay Raji (Controller of Examinations), the Jt Registrar, Deans, other admin officials, faculty members of RGU, and Taje (Vijay) Dupit, Range Forest Officer and officials from the Dept of Forest, Doimukh Range. Their participation underscored the university’s and Forest Dept’s commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement.

The plantation drive, a key highlight of the event, was initiated by the Estate Officer of RGU in association with the RFO. The participants planted a variety of saplings across the university campus, symbolizing the deep connection between humanity and nature and the responsibility to nurture and protect the environment for future generations.

In his address, Prof Kushwaha emphasized the significance of the Van Mahotsav and its theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ which translates to ‘A Tree in the Name of Mother’. He highlighted the need for collective efforts in environmental conservation and urged everyone to contribute in preserving the natural resources of Arunachal Pradesh.

Dr Rikam lauded the collaborative efforts and expressed hope that such initiatives would inspire more sustainable practices across the region.

Earlier, the RFO highlighted the importance of Van Mahotsav and narrated how the Dept of Forest is actively involved in this noble work for humanity and natural habitat.

The event concluded with a pledge by all participants to continue their efforts in protecting and nurturing the environment, ensuring that the spirit of Van Mahotsav lives on beyond the day of celebration.
