Police arrests 2 for kidnap & murder of a school student

ITANAGAR, Aug 1: The Lohit District Police has arrested two individuals for their alleged involvement in kidnapping and murder of a 12-year-old school student from 28 Mile area near Digaru in the district.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tumme Amo said that the accused persons, who were arrested on July 27, have been identified as Najuso Tamai (32) and Govinda Tamang (28).

Narrating the incident, Amo said the class IV student of Govt Upper Primary School, Gohaigaon was kidnapped reportedly on July 22 while returning home from his school.

“The family members searched for the boy till July 23 on their own, without lodging any complaint with the police. The father received a ransom call on July 24 demanding Rs 15 lakh for release of the boy. The ransom amount was later toned down to Rs 50,000,” he informed.

The SPP said though the victim’s father did not lodge any FIR, a police team was constituted for the case which started tracing the phone number from which the ransom call was made.

Amo said that both the accused have confessed to kidnapping the boy and said that he was killed on the same day he was kidnapped as he had identified Tamai who used to often visit his home. “They disclosed the place where they had dumped the boy’s body. The police team later retrieved the body from Kali Khola area.

“We tried hard to save the boy. We wanted to rescue him alive but he was killed even before the police were informed,” the SSP said.

A case under Section 137/140 (2) (3) and 101 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at Sunpura Police Station on July 28, he said.
