Tawang celebrates Swachh Sundar Shauchalaya Day

TAWANG, Jul 10: With the Swach Bharat Abhiyan completing its five years on 2nd October next and reflecting the journey of the preceding five years, the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Govt of India has planned a series of events starting from June this year to October 2019 across the country.

Going with rest of the country, Tawang district today celebrated Swachh Sundar Shauchalaya Day under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen). Swachh Mahotsava is being organized from 28th June to 2nd October next.

In this regard, PHE&WS division Tawang organized a felicitation programme for the five best performing Sarpanch’s, 10 best household beneficiaries from Swachh Sundar Shauchalaya contest and two best NGOs for supporting Swachh Bharat Mission in Tawang.

G Mize, executive engineer PHED Tawang extended his gratitude to all those concerned for their support in making Swachch Bharat Mission (Grameen) in Tawang a success. He also appealed for continuing in the same vein to keep the status of Tawang being ODF free and cleanest district in North East.

Speaking on the occasion, CO Tashi Wangchhu said that our govt has been providing necessary funds for all kind of developmental activities be it making of toilet for our own use, and so, we should be responsible and make best utilization of the funds being provided.

Jambey Dondu, president EPS (NGO) urged the district administration to put a complete ban on use of plastic carry bags. (DIPRO)
