Adi-Galo Summit 2025 marks a new era of unity & cooperation in Likabali

Itanagar, Mar 1: In a landmark event, the first-ever Adi-Galo Summit 2025 was held in Likabali in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Siang district on Saturday, bringing together the Adi and Galo communities in a historic step toward unity, cultural integration, and mutual cooperation.

The summit witnessed the signing of a holistic Joint Declaration between the Adi Baane Kebang (ABK) and the Galo Welfare Society (GWS), setting a framework for fostering socio-cultural harmony and addressing shared challenges.

The Joint Declaration was signed by ABP president Tadum Libang, and GWS president Marnya Ete, in the presence of elected representatives, members of the frontal wings of both organizations, and key stakeholders from both communities.

Gracing the event as the chief guest, Roing MLA and Advisor to the Minister of Education, Mutchu Mithi hailed the summit as a historic milestone, emphasizing that unity between two of Arunachal Pradesh’s most progressive communities must be built on trust, respect, and honesty.

Echoing these sentiments, Tagin Cultural Society president Larji Riga, who was the guest of honour, underscored the deep cultural affinity shared by the Adi and Galo people, stating that their reunion was inevitable and necessary for stronger regional cooperation.

The event was attended by Arunachal East MP Tapir Gao, State’s Law, Legislative & Justice and Tribal Affairs Minister Kento Jini, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Minister Ojing Tasing, and Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor, among other dignitaries.

Call for reviving traditional institutions

A major highlight of the discussions was the call for the revival of the Bogum Bokang Kebang, the former apex body that once represented both communities. Several speakers proposed that the Bogum Bokang Kebang be re-established as a unifying platform where ABK and GWS could collaborate to address social, cultural, and governance-related concerns.

Leaders also advocated for an inclusive approach to governance and community welfare, urging both communities to prioritize long-term cooperation and unity over past differences.

The Joint Declaration received overwhelming support from community leaders, legislators, and attendees, who stressed the need to move beyond past disputes and ego-driven divisions. Speakers stressed the importance of nurturing this newfound unity, ensuring that the younger generation carries forward the spirit of collaboration and shared heritage.

The summit concluded with a firm commitment from both ABK and GWS to uphold the resolutions outlined in the declaration, with provisions for future amendments to adapt to changing socio-political dynamics.

The Adi-Galo Summit 2025 is expected to set a new precedent for inter-community cooperation in Arunachal Pradesh, strengthening ties between the Adi and Galo communities for generations to come.
