Former Minister Thinghaap Taiju dies, state leaders mourn

Itanagar, Aug 29: Former Arunachal Pradesh Minister Thinghaap Taiju passed away at his residence in Changlang district on Friday.

He was 70 plus and is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter.

Taiju had been unwell for the past two days and was on oxygen support, family sources said.

A veteran leader from Changlang district, Taiju served as an Anchal Samity Member (ASM) before being elected as MLA for three terms (1995–2004 and 2009–2014). During his political career, he held key positions including Deputy Minister, State Minister, and Parliamentary Secretary in the Congress regime. He was widely respected for his commitment to grassroots development and his service to the people of the Changlang North constituency.

Taiju’s demise has prompted an outpouring of condolences from leaders across party lines.

In his condolence message, Chief Minister Pema Khandu said he was “deeply saddened” by the demise of the veteran leader, stating that “his dedicated service and contribution to the state will always be remembered”. “My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May his soul find eternal peace and light,” he said.

Condoling the demise, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein called Late Taiju a leader who “devoted his life to the service of Arunachal Pradesh, leaving an enduring legacy of leadership, dedication, and commitment.”

State Assembly Speaker Tesam Pongte remembered him as a grassroots leader whose “unwavering dedication to society and contributions to public life will be revered with the highest esteem.”

“His unwavering dedication to society, particularly the 53 Changlang North constituency, will be remembered. I pray to Almighty Rangkhothak Rangwah for a heavenly abode for the departed soul and strength for the bereaved family to overcome the void,” Pongte said.

Former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki also mourned his death, calling Taiju a “veteran leader who made remarkable contributions in Arunachal Pradesh.”

Leaders, colleagues, and well-wishers have joined the bereaved family in prayers for the departed soul, as the state bids farewell to a respected leader whose legacy of public service will be long remembered. (With PTI inputs)
