Army, NDMA conduct disaster preparedness exercises in Arunachal

Itanagar, Sep 19: The Ball of Fire Division of Gajraj Corps, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the State Government and local agencies, conducted state-level disaster preparedness exercises in high-altitude regions of Arunachal Pradesh. The drills highlighted the joint strength, determination and preparedness of military and civil agencies to effectively respond to natural calamities.

The exercises commenced with a Table Top Exercise in Tawang, which focused on early warning systems, safe evacuation, medical aid, relief distribution and civil-military coordination. Representatives from multiple agencies engaged in scenario-based discussions, addressing challenges and framing practical strategies for disaster management in the Himalayan terrain, which is prone to earthquakes, landslides and flash floods.

Subsequently, mock drills were conducted at Tawang and Pakke Kessang, simulating real-life disaster situations. Military troops and civil agencies jointly tested rapid response, emergency communication, first aid, resource mobilisation and rehabilitation measures, demonstrating high levels of coordination and operational readiness.

The exercises reinforced the importance of timely response, joint planning and community awareness. Officials stated that the initiative not only enhanced disaster preparedness but also deepened civil-military cooperation, ensuring stronger protection of lives and livelihoods for the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
