DNGC celebrates Int’l Year of Quantum Science & Technology

Itanagar, Sep 25: To mark the United Nations’ declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ 2025), the Department of Physics and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Dera Natung Govt College (DNGC), Itanagar, in collaboration with the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT), RC-17, organized an invited lecture and a quiz competition for BSc students in the college premises here on Tuesday last.

Addressing the gathering, DNGC Principal Dr MQ Khan underlined that this is the age of information and computing, urging students and teachers to popularise science and make it more beneficial for the community and society at large.

The invited lecture, titled “Quantum Information and Computing: A Brief Overview”, along with the quiz competition, was conceived and coordinated by Dr Bandana Gogoi and Dr Nabaratna Bhagawati of the Department of Physics. Dr Gogoi, also head of the department, delivered the welcome address and spoke about the significance of IYQ 2025.

The highlight of the programme was the lecture by Dr Arnab Chakrabarti from the Department of Physics, Rajiv Gandhi University, who explained complex concepts of quantum information and computing with clarity and ease, while also stressing the transformative potential of quantum technologies in shaping a data-driven future.

A large number of students from various science departments of DNGC enthusiastically took part in the quiz competition, conducted by Dr Tarh Achi and Dr BK Mishra. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Nabaratna Bhagawati, followed by the distribution of prizes to the quiz winners.
