Itanagar, Nov 4: The final Battlefield Trek of the 63rd Walong Day commemoration was conducted from Ashi Hill to Tri Junction Post, marking the culmination of a series of commemorative treks organised to honour the valiant soldiers of the Battle of Walong (1962).
A total of 20 civilians, along with Indian Army personnel, participated in the trek, retracing the historic routes where unparalleled bravery, sacrifice, and resilience were displayed during one of the most heroic battles of the 1962 India-China War.
Ashi Hill holds a place of immense significance in India’s military history, being one of the crucial battle locations where Indian troops fought gallantly against numerically superior enemy forces. Tri Junction Post, meanwhile, stands as the symbolic site of the first counter-attack launched by the Indian Army during the conflict — epitomizing the unyielding spirit and determination of Indian soldiers.
The trek served as a heartfelt tribute to the heroes who defended the nation’s honour and inspired future generations with their indomitable courage. It also marked the successful conclusion of the Battlefield Trek Series conducted across the Walong Sector, revisiting key battle locations and rekindling the legacy of valour, endurance, and national pride.
The initiative reflects the Indian Army’s continued endeavour to honour its heroes, promote historical awareness, and instil a deep sense of patriotism among the youth — celebrating the immortal Spirit of Walong, a Defence release said.
