Itanagar, Nov 29: The Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP) has withdrawn its third phase of statewide agitation after receiving a positive assurance from the State Government during its two-day Maun Vrat (silent protest) held at the IG Park tennis court here.
IFCSAP president Dr Emi Rumi formally announced the withdrawal, stating that the third phase of agitation — which included wearing black badges during the Indigenous Faith Day celebrations across the state — now stands withdrawn following the government’s commitment to address their demand.
The Maun Vrat, observed on November 27 and 28, was organised as a mark of peaceful protest against the government’s prolonged delay in framing and notifying the Rules of the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act (APFRA), 1978. For two consecutive days, IFCSAP members and supporters conducted a 12-hour silent protest, wearing black badges as a symbol of dissent.
Acknowledging the State Government’s assurance as a constructive step, IFCSAP expressed optimism that the long-pending APFRA Rules would now be notified without further delay.
The organisation reiterated that its movement was not against any group, but solely aimed at activating an Act that has remained ineffective for decades due to the absence of official Rules.
IFCSAP extended heartfelt gratitude to its supporters across the state for their unwavering solidarity throughout the agitation. The organisation also clarified that although the third phase has been withdrawn, it will continue to closely monitor the government’s actions to ensure timely implementation of the assurance.
