Itanagar, May 31: The Arunachal Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has categorically denied reports circulating on social media and certain digital platforms claiming that Chief Minister Pema Khandu was planning to resign from his post.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here on Sunday, State BJP President Kaling Moyong described the reports as “fake and misleading” and warned of legal action against those responsible for spreading the misinformation.
“There is absolutely no truth in the news being circulated about Chief Minister Pema Khandu stepping down. Such rumours are baseless and intended to mislead the public,” Moyong said.
Referring to the ongoing Supreme Court-directed CBI inquiry against the Chief Minister over alleged corruption charges, Moyong said the matter is under investigation and there has been no discussion within the party regarding any change in leadership.
“If the Supreme Court delivers a verdict against the Chief Minister, the party will take an appropriate decision at that time. As of now, the investigation is still underway and there is no question of resignation,” he said.
Moyong further asserted that all 46 BJP legislators in the State continue to support Khandu’s leadership.
Dismissing speculation about any directive from the party’s central leadership, Moyong said, “Delhi and Arunachal Pradesh are well connected. If there were any such development, we would certainly be aware of it. There is no truth in these rumours.”
BJP state general secretary Tadar Niglar also reiterated the party’s unity, stating that all MLAs remain firmly under the leadership of the Chief Minister.
“There is no division within the party. All legislators are united under one leadership,” Niglar said. He also warned that strict disciplinary action would be initiated if any BJP member was found involved in spreading the alleged hoax reports concerning the Chief Minister’s resignation.
