Red Run held at Deomali to raise HIV, STI awareness

DEOMALI, Aug 21: A 5-km Red Run Mini Marathon was organised at Deomali in Tirap district on Friday to promote awareness about HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among young people.

The event was organised by the Red Ribbon Club (RRC) of Wangcha Rajkumar Government College, Deomali, in collaboration with the NSS Unit, Deomali Forest Range Office and Care Me Home Welfare Society, Tirap, under the aegis of the Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS). The theme of the event was “Youth for HIV & STI.”

Around 50 participants, including students, NSS volunteers and RRC members, took part in the mini marathon, combining the messages of health awareness, physical fitness and social responsibility.

Principal of WRGC, Deomali, Dr Watsen Bangsia, emphasised the importance of discipline, healthy living and responsible citizenship. He encouraged students to adopt positive lifestyles and contribute to building a healthier and responsible society.

RRC Programme Coordinator Ngamwang Lowang urged students to remain informed and vigilant about HIV/AIDS and STIs. He also highlighted the importance of regular physical activity and participation in sports in promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.

The event was attended by Dr Doli Tesia, Ngunphang Tongluk, Forester Liamkai Wangpan, Dakwang Namati and Donglin Tangdong, among others. The prize money for the winners was sponsored by Donglin Tangdong.

The Red Run concluded with a message encouraging youth to stay informed about HIV and STIs, maintain physical fitness and play an active role in promoting a healthy and responsible community. (DIPRO)
