ITANAGAR, Sep 30: The 13th Greater Kameng Badminton Championship 2026 got underway at Seppa in East Kameng district on Wednesday, with Bameng MLA Kumar Waii inaugurating the tournament in the presence of MLAs Jikke Tako, Hayeng Mangfi and Ealing Tallang, besides players, officials and badminton enthusiasts.
Addressing the gathering, Waii, who was among the founders of the Greater Kameng badminton platform, recalled his association with the championship and encouraged players to participate with determination and sporting spirit.
“Winning and losing are part of sports. What matters is that we continue to play with determination and sporting spirit,” he said.
Waii said the Greater Kameng platform was established to promote unity, friendship and brotherhood among people of the region. He urged participants and the public to maintain mutual understanding and avoid unnecessary disputes.
MLA Jikke Tako extended his best wishes to the participants and stressed the importance of sports in maintaining physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle. He said badminton could be played by people across age groups and encouraged greater participation in the sport.
Tako also highlighted the contribution of the Greater Kameng region to the state’s leadership and development.
President of the Greater Kameng Badminton Association (GKBA) Aju Khonjuju said the championship, which originated in Bomdila, had reached its 13th edition and continued to serve as a platform for strengthening friendship and unity among people of the region.
Around nine teams from across the Kameng region are participating in the championship.
