‘Cooperative is one of best movements in rural India’

NAHARLAGUN, Nov 14: The 66th All India cooperative week celebration started at the State Cooperative Union office at Polo Colony here today with a slew of activities marking the occasion.

Inaugurating the programme, Registrar of Cooperative Society (RCS) Tai Kayi said that Cooperative is one of the best movements in rural India for the uplift of thousands of members.

The cooperative movement has also been a great help to the members who have cooperated each other to work for themselves and sell their products and earn for themselves for their social uplift and transformation, he opined.

Kayi also said that in earlier days the Cooperative Union/Society played a pioneer role in transforming the people through activities like public distribution system, production, distribution and selling of products and earning livelihood.

He lauded the activities of State run Apex Bank in public service.

Among others, Tourism Minister and APSCU Chairman Nakap Nalo, Joint Registrar RD Thungon, Chief Executive Officer P Tayeng and EE (Civil) J Borah addressed the gathering.

The afternoon session witnessed technical session attended by executive members and Board of Directors of various cooperative unions of state, which was addressed by resource person from Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development, Horticulture, Textile & Handicraft and others.

It also saw discussion on several schemes including ‘Make in India’, ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, ‘Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna’, ‘Digital India’, ‘Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna’ and ‘Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana’ among others.

The programme will continue till November 20 and will be celebrated in different parts of the state.
