Children’s Day celebrated with great enthusiasm

ITANAGAR, Nov 14: State Governor Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra along with Education Minister Taba Tedir celebrated the Children’s Day with the students of Donyi Polo Mission School for the Hearing and Visually Impaired, Chimpu and other Govt schools of Itanagar at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan here today, commemorating the birth anniversary of first Prime Minister of India, Pt Jawaharlal Nehru.

Greeting the children on the occasion, the Governor appealed them to make themselves good and useful citizens of the country. He said Children’s Day is a day of introspection for the parents and guardians to review whether they are providing correct education and living standard to their wards. He said that it is their responsibility and duty to provide every opportunity to their wards to excel in life.

He also advised the parents to prepare themselves first by way of mustering them with necessary resources before bringing a child to this earth. He further advised the parents to send their children to school and ensure timely vaccination.

The Governor said that the State Govt also has the responsibility towards the wellbeing of the children, their education, health and physical activities.

On the issue of land encroachment, the Governor appealed to the people “not to take away the leg space and lung space of the students by encroaching upon the school lands”. He advised the Education Minister to initiate action against the encroachers to stop and recover the school land across the board.

The Governor also advised the Minister for streamlining the ‘Mid-Day Meal’ programme and creating awareness against food wastage, which he said is the wastage of national resources.

The Education Minister also addressed the children and advised them to maintain cleanliness and preserve the natural flora and fauna.

The students presented a colour traditional cultural programme with the spirit of patriotism, preservation and protection of flora and fauna and the rich cultural heritage of the State.

Later, the Governor accompanied by the Education Minister visited the Govt Primary School, Raj Bhavan here and advised him to improve the education scenario of the State with special focus on elementary education.

“With better education to children at the primary level, particularly in remote areas of the State, we will be setting up a strong foundation for our future generation,” the Governor said.

The Governor’s wife Neelam Misra and Commissioner to Governor RP Upadhyay also attended the programme.

DIPROs add: To mark the Children’s Day, Zgang Depga, a Jigaon (West Kameng)-based NGO organized an inter-school quiz competition at Jigaon in collaboration with Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary, Shergaon Forest Division. The NGO, which works for the preservation of environment, and propagates education in the area, also felicitated two budding writers on the occasion.

Gracing the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Sonal Swaroop seemingly impressed by the large numbers of girls participating in the quiz competition urged them to leave no stone unturned in pursuit of excellence. ‘Commitment, diligence, hard work and focus takes one to places’, she said and assured of conducting district level quiz competition under the CMSSY very soon.

For balanced growth and development of students, sports kits and equipments were gifted to the NGO by the district administration as education is no longer confined in the pages of a textbook.

After a grueling two hours of quizzing, the Govt Residential School, Jigaon came out as the winner and Zgang Academy as the runner’s up. Among others, Rupa ADC S Gurung, CO A Kri and Principal i/c GHSS Rupa attended the programme.

YINGKIONG: Upper Siang Deputy Commissioner Taper Pada and DDSE D Tayeng celebrated Children’s Day at Govt Middle School, Millang. The occasion saw the dignitaries accompanied by BDO and BEO Mariyang sharing love and affection with children on Chacha Nehru’s birthday.
