Day 2 of Khelo India Youth Games: Arunachal’s medal tally shots to 7 Weightlifters rule with 2 silver, 1 bronze

ITANAGAR, Jan 10: On day 2 of Khelo India Youth Games 2018-19 at Pune in Maharashtra today, Arunachal Pradesh secured five medals, including three silver and two bronze, which took its medal tally to seven.

Of five medals, two silver and one bronze came from weightlifting discipline while one each of silver and bronze came in judo.

Earlier on the opening day yesterday, the State opened the medal tally by bringing home two bronze medals in weightlifting.

In weightlifting, Markio Tario won silver in U-17 boys 67 Kg. He lifted 104 Kg in Snatch and 142 Kg in Clean & Jerk with a total of 246 Kg.

The second silver came through Charu Pesi, who grabbed the honour while participating in U-17 boys 61 Kg. He lifted 97 Kg in Snatch and 130 Kg in Clean & Jerk with a total of 227 Kg.

U-21 girl Techi Nadam (45 Kg) clinched bronze. She came up with a lift of 56 Kg in Snatch and 73 Kg in Clean & Jerk, totalling 129 Kg.

In judo, U-17 girl Kabi Doyom brought the State silver in 48 Kg.

Khomdan Wanghop bagged bronze in U-17 boys 50 Kg.

Good news also came about in badminton with Laa Takum entering the second round. The U-17 boy won the 1st round by beating his opponent from Maharashtra in straight sets 21-19, 22-20.
