Pandya, Rahul suspended pending inquiry

Sydney, Jan 11: India skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri received honorary membership of the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) here on Friday.

The only other international cricketers to have been granted honorary membership are fellow countryman Sachin Tendulkar and West Indies great Brian Lara.

“The SCG congratulates Team India for securing its first Test series win on Australian soil,” SCG Chairman Tony Shepherd said in a statement.

"It is wonderful to see the world’s largest cricketing nation putting its focus firmly on Test cricket – a step that will reinforce the pre-eminence of Tests in the global cricketing landscape. Virat and Ravi have been at the forefront of that and Test cricket is well served having both placing such significance on the five-day format," the statement added.

Both Kohli and Shastri have good memories of the iconic cricket ground.

In the recently-concluded Test series, India won their first-ever Test series Down Under as the final rubber of the four-match series here at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) ended in a draw on Monday. India won the series by 2-1.

Kohli also became the first Asian captain to win the Test cricket series on Australian soil . (UNI)
