SHGs from Bordumsa making layered cloth masks

ITANAGAR, Mar 25: Since the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus that caused coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the use of facemasks has become ubiquitous in the country.

With the scarcity of facemasks in the market, the Nightingale SHGs Federation from Bordumsa, Changlang has taken the initiative to stitch layered cloth masks for the public where 10 SHGs are involved in this noble cause. The SHG Federation was formed by Bordumsa Mahila Mandal under project NERCORMP.

The SHG Federation is already in the initial phase of production of low cost sanitary pads, targetting girls and women living in rural and remote areas of Changlang district at an affordable price. It is an initiative taken jointly by the Jatan Sanstha, Rajesthan and NERCORMP Changlang to provide menstrual hygiene to women and girls who cannot afford expensive napkins.

Dr Devansh Yadav, ADC Bordumsa has taken keen interest in their work and already placed order for more than 100 masks. Similarly, ADC Miao has also placed an order for 500 masks to Seva Kendra Arunachal East from Namphai. Their effort has been appreciated by R K Sharma, DC Changlang.
