ITANAGAR, May 22: With heavy amount of rain expected to lash the region over the next few days, the East Siang district administration on Friday issued a ‘monsoon advisory’ for the safety of people of the district and to avert any eventuality during the rainy season.

“On the onset of monsoon, all the general public of East Siang district (especially) Pasighat are cautioned to refrain themselves from venturing into River Siang for fishing, swimming etc to avoid any eventualities,” read the advisory issued by East Siang DC cum District Magistrate Dr Kinny Singh.

Further, people living in the low-lying areas on both right and left banks of the river such as Jarku, Paglek, SS Mission, Jarkong, Banskota, Berung, Sigar, Borguli, Seram, Kongkul, Namsing and Mer villages nearby river Siang have been advised to remain alert but not to panic.

The DA further directed the people not to lift driftwoods such as logs, trees, bamboo clamps and any uprooted vegetative materials brought by the river from the upstreams and parked along both the banks of river Siang and leave them untouched at the site so that they can act as the natural flood control mechanism.

“In default, necessary action under section 188 of IPC and under other relevant provision of law will be taken by the law enforcement authorities,” the DM warned.
