Assam flood toll mounts to 24; 13 lakh affected so far


Guwahati, Jun 29: The flood situation in Assam worsened with the number of affected people crossing over 13 lakh, while the death toll mounted to 24.
As many as four deaths were reported in the last 24 hours in the state, Assam State Disaster Management Authority informed here this evening.
Among the death, two are from Dibrugarh, and once each from Goalpara and Barpeta.
The number of affected people has climbed to 13,16,927, with the total figure of affected districts also increasing to 25.
Altogether 72 revenue circles and 2404 villages and localities remain affected by floods, with waters submerging 83168 hectares of crop land also.
Altogether 143 relief camps are operational in the state, in which over 27,000 displaced people are taking shelter.
Parts of Kaziranga National Park and Orang National Park have also been affected by flood waters.
Almost all the major rivers in Brahmaputra valley are flowing above the danger level, including the Brahmaputra in four places. (UNI)
