RGU bids adieu to academic doyen


RONO HILLS, Jun 30: The Rajiv Gandhi University fraternity today bade adieu to a stalwart academician - Prof Tamo Mibang, Professor in the Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies, who is also the first Arunachalee to become a Vice Chancellor of the central university.
Prof Mibang’s contribution and achievements in the field of academia and academic administration is unparallel and will be inscribed in golden letters in RGU history, as his 41-year-long dynamic and path breaking academic career came to an end on Tuesday.
The sharing of experiences was preceded by felicitation of Prof Mibang by the RGU Vice Chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha, which included a memento, a citation and art work from the students of department of Fine Arts & Music among other bequests.
His farewell was also marked by two other significant events, including the launch of RGU website and a bi-lingual monthly edition of the Rono Post. The new official website of RGU was launched by Prof Mibang in presence of the VC.
Prof Mibang, in his farewell address, thanked the whole university fraternity for organizing the programme and asked everyone to carry forward the legacy that has been created and nurtured by him. Stressing on the need of team work, he expressed his desire to make the RGU an internationally recognized university, as he sees great potential in the youth of this university and the only need he felt was to provide them with opportunities.
In his speech, Prof Kushwaha heaved praises on Prof Mibang for his uncountable contribution to the State and nation. He said: “Though Prof Mibang is leaving the university, he will remain with us forever.”
Addressing Prof Mibang as a living legend of the university, the VC said: “Prof Mibang promised him that he will work toward making the university one of the best in the country.” He shared that the virtues of patience, discipline and integrity of Prof Mibang is something each one at the university must try to emulate. He also said that Prof Mibang was a great administrator and a greater academician.
