KHARSANG, Jul 2: As decided by them earlier, the representatives of Kharsang Circle Unemployed Youth Association, Tangsa Youth Association, All Changlang District Students Union, All Tangsa Students’ Union and Muklom Elite Society today staged a peaceful dharna, as first phase of their democratic movement, in protest against the management of GeoEnpro Pvt Ltd for terminating the services of 19 employees, including three regular and 16 contractual employees.

During the demonstration, the protesters also burned the effigies of GeoEnpro CEO Ajay Kumar Ray and DGM R Murali.

GeoEnpro Pvt Ltd, Kharsang on June 9 had terminated 16 contractual employees and coerced three of its regular employees to tender their resignation, citing financial inability to continue with their services.

Apparently distressed with this ‘development’, the members of the five local organisations stood up against the alleged discrimination meted out to the helpless workers. Since then the organisations have been demanding revocation of their termination order.

On the sidelines of the dharna, the organisations submitted a one-point memorandum to the SDO, Kharsang seeking intervention of the local administration to cease the predicament that has crushed the future of 19 poor families.

Today's massive support for the peaceful dharna showed the suppressed anger of the public against the GeoEnpro management, Kharsang Circle Unemployed Youth Association president Munpong Khimhun said.
