DC assesses flood situation in affected vills under Mebo sub-division

PASIGHAT, Aug 1: East Siang Deputy Commissioner Dr Kinny Singh along with ADC Mebo Bani Lego, EE (WRD) and officers today visited flood ravaged villages of Mebo sub-division viz Borguli, Seram, Namsing and Kongkul etc.

The visiting team interacted with retired Group Captain Mohonto Panging Pao and villagers at the spot where flood protection works are being carrying out by the villagers under the supervision of Water Resource Department.

A public meeting was also conducted at Namsing by the DC-led team where the villagers shared their problems, being faced by them due to ongoing Siang flood. Mebo ADC, BDO and EE (WRD) were present.

Appreciating the villagers for the voluntary flood protection works, the DC informed that a ‘Flood Protection Scheme’ under MGNREGA has been sanctioned for immediate relief of the villagers and work could be started soon.

Former PRI leader Gumin Tayeng informed that massive damages caused by the flood this time affected road connectivity and submerged agro and horti fields etc. He urged the DC for construction of an alternative road connecting Namsing and Kongkul villages as the existing road has been totally eroded.

He also requested for assessment of damages by the authority for early payment of compensation.

As part of flood protection measures, the officers of Mebo sub-division has contributed Rs 1,27,000. (DIPRO)
