Cloudburst hits Ledum water supply project

PASIGHAT, Aug 1: The lone water supply project for the entire Pasighat West Assembly constituency feeding drinking water supply to Bilat & Sille-Oyan circles and Ruksin ADC headquarters under East Siang district, Ledum water supply project was severely damaged in the night of July 29 last due to sudden cloudburst at the catchment area, according to the department of PHE &WS.

The potable drinking water supply of the entire area under the said jurisdiction has been badly affected by the flash flood. The residents of Bokrang area consisting of several households, which are a part of Ledum village, had a narrow escape, as all valuable properties, livestock, plantations and many WRC fields at the downstream side have also been washed away, added the sources.

One intellectual elder of the village, Tayor Radeng while sharing his experience said that he has never seen such heavy flood in the area since the past 42 years.

When contacted, PHE &WS AE Tadung Padung informed that despite much hardship in reaching out to the intake point, retrieving of displaced DI & GI pipe has been completed and added that the department has pressed its manpower on war footing to restore the normal water supply system that starts from 31st July.

He appreciated MLA Ninong Ering for prompt assistance to the department for providing two nos of JCV to speed up the restoration work. He also lauded the people of Ledum village for their physical and logistic support in lifting DI/GI pipe from motorable road to worksite voluntarily.

Mijing Dupak, executive engineer PHED informed that headwork, supporting pillars in various crossings, was washed away. “The actual time for complete restoration of the system is unpredictable in such a condition; however, I appeal the esteemed consumers of the Assembly constituency to cooperate and bear with the department until the completion of restoration work,” he added.
