Khandu tests positive for COVID-19

ITANAGAR, Sep 15: State Chief Minister Pema Khandu, presently on an official tour to the national capital, today announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19 through RT-PCR test and is self-isolating as per SOP (standard operating procedure).
Khandu said he is asymptomatic and feeling healthy, and requested all those people who came in contact with him (in the past few days) to follow the COVID-19 SOP.
Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, the Chief Minister wrote: “I had undergone Covid test RT-PCR and have tested positive for Covid19.
I am asymptomatic and feeling healthy. However as per SOP and safety of others, I am self isolating myself and request everyone who came in contact with me to adhere to the SOP.”
The Chief Minister has self-isolated at the Arunachal Bhavan in New Delhi, said an official of the CMO here.
Sources said that the Chief Minister, who reached the national capital on Saturday from his hometown Tawang via Guwahati, called on Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday and had a detailed discussion on various important matters relating to Arunachal Pradesh.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao and State Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar accompanied him during the meeting.
In the meantime, Twitteries including politicians wished him a speedy recovery and good health.
“Praying for your speedy recovery, @PemaKhanduBJP ji,” Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh tweeted.
“Please take care sir. Prayer for you,” BJP Kanubari legislator Gabriel D Wangsu wrote.
The news of the Chief Minister testing COVID-19 positive comes a couple of days after the State Health Minister Alo Libang and Agriculture Minister Tage Taki contracted the virus.
Besides Khandu, Libang and Taki, five other politicians including Education Minister Taba Tedir, State BJP president & Pakke-Kessang MLA Biyuram Wahge, Namsai MLA Chau Zingnu Namchoom, Lekang MLA Jummum Ete Deori and Kalaktang MLA Dorjee Wangdi Kharma have also tested positive for COVID-19.
Arunachal Pradesh has so far recorded 6298 COVID-19 positive cases, including 1756 active and 4531 discharged cases coupled with 11 casualties, as per latest data released by the Health Department on Monday.
