DCH, Pasighat creates a record of sorts with surgery on Covid-19+ pregnant lady

PASIGHAT, Oct 16: A team of doctors from Bakin Pertin General Hospital, Pasighat assisted by nursing officers and supporting staff successfully carried out the first ever surgery on a Covid-19 positive patient at the Dedicated COVID Hospital (DCH), North Eastern Institute of Folk Medicine (NEIFM) here today.
East Siang District Medical Officer Dr Kaling Dai said, a patient of advanced pregnancy requiring surgical intervention was successfully operated upon by the team and consequently, she was blessed with a healthy baby girl.
The team was led by gynaecologist Dr Binpi Karlo and supported by anesthesiologist Dr Yamini Taloh, senior paediatrician Dr Gagam Dai, and nursing officers Marshal Panyang and Otam Taloh, and Jeeten (OT boy), the DMO said.
“It was a tough procedure with suffocation and poor visibility with wearing personal protective equipment,” said one of the doctors. However, the team created a record by successfully accomplishing the procedure in trying conditions for the first time in DCH, Pasighat.
“I congratulate the team from the core of my heart for saving the lives of both mother and child by risking their own lives in a pandemic situation. Their guts and grit set a benchmark for all service providers and reignite the true spirit of serving the people in need,” the DMO remarked.
