2 drug peddlers arrested

ITANAGAR, Oct 17: The Tirap district police arrested two alleged drug peddlers with suspected contraband substances and some cash from Khonsa, the district headquarters of Tirap on Saturday, police said.

“Acting on a tip-off, the Anti-Drug Squad of Tirap Police conducted raids in and around Khonsa market and apprehended the two drug peddlers namely Wangsam and Wangtiap.

“During checking, contraband substances suspected to be heroin, weighing approximately 140 grams, and cash amounting to Rs 6,670, believed to be the sale proceeds, were recovered from their possession,” Tirap SP Kardak Riba said.

A case has been registered against both the arrested accused at Khonsa Police Station under Section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 and an investigation is on, the SP informed.

The SP, while appreciating the anti-drug squad led by Khonsa PS OC Inspector Wangngoi Kamhua and SI L Kimsing for nabbing the alleged peddlers, warned all those involved in the illegal drug trade to desist from the act otherwise law will catch up with them and they will be punished strictly.

Riba also appealed to the general public to install the ‘Drug Free Arunachal’ mobile app in their cell phones and make extensive use of the same and help the police curb the menace. (With DIPRO inputs)
