Newly-elected KAI president given warm reception



ITANAGAR, Oct 26: The newly elected president of the Karate Association of India (KAI), Likha Tara was accorded a warm reception at the Hollongi check gate on Sunday on his arrival by the members of Likha Welfare Society and Likha Youths Association.
Tara was re-elected to the top post of KAI for the second time in the recently held election. Prior to this assignment, he was holding the post of president of Arunachal Karate-Do Association (AKA) and vice president of Karate Association of India (KAI).
Tara is the first from North East to be elected as the president of KAI, and also became the first from Arunachal to head any national level sports body.
A State gold medal recipient in 2005, Tara, black belt 7 DAN, had served as police officer from 1982 to 2003. He was also the karate instructor of PTC, Banderdewa from 1989 to 1998, and had served as vice chairman of Sports Authority of Arunachal from 2012 to 2015.
Tara, the founder of AKA, has been silently working for the promotion of the game in the State since last 39 years along with his team of dedicated officials. Due to his sincere efforts, today several districts of the State have good numbers of karatakas.
The State has produced many national and international level karate players under his guidance, and has become a force to reckon with in karate in North East and the country as well.
Speaking to the media, Tara assured his full support for the development of karate and all other sports disciplines.
Expressing delight on being elected unopposed, Tara said he will coordinate with the Sports Ministry and the state governments for development of games and sports.
He appealed to the youths to do exercise daily to remain fit and fine.
