ITANAGAR, Feb 10: The United Arunachal Indigenous People’s Forum (UAIPF) on Sunday took out a bike rally from Nyikum Niya Ground, Nirjuli to the IG Park Tennis Court here in protest against the state government’s reported move to issue PRC to non-APST communities residing in Namsai and other parts of the state.
The UAIPF has been pressing for immediate withdrawal of the statements given by Chief Minister Pema Khandu and his Deputy Chowna Mein to grant permanent residential certificates (PRC) to the non-APSTs settled at Lekang in Namsai district and Vijoynagar in Changlang district.
After drawing flaks from various quarters post the announcements by the leaders’ duo, the State Government had clarified that it was in no hurry to grant the PRCs and it would examine the matter only after receiving the final report from the Joint High Powered Committee (JHPC) constituted to look into the matter.
During the rally, the protesters led by UAIPF president Laffe Paffa engaged in shouting slogans against granting of PRC to the non-APSTs. They also chanted slogans all the way against the CM and Dy CM. The Arunachal Social Welfare Alliance (ASWA) also supported the protest rally.
The Forum threatened the state government of non-cooperation and other forms of democratic agitation if the latter does not honour the sentiments of the indigenous people.
