NAMSAI, May 15: With three circles of Namsai district namely Namsai, Lekang and Piyong ravaged by the Sunday’s severe cyclonic storm that witnessed wide-spread devastations, Namsai Deputy Commissioner Dr Tapasya Raghav along with officers visited the affected areas and interacted with the families, who bore the brunt of the destructions.
In this connection, a team from Health department headed by DMO Namsai visited the relief camp and conducted health check up, besides carrying out health awareness at the camp. They also distributed mosquito nets (LLIN – Long Lasting Insecticidal Net) to the people in the relief camp, said an official press note.
Earlier yesterday, in an emergency meeting held at the DC’s conference hall here the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the damage assessment report prepared by the administrative officers and discussed the further steps to be taken.
Taking note of the matter, Dr Tapasya Raghavon Monday directed all the administrative officers and heads of several departments to tour respective areas to assess the damages in the district.
It requires a mention here that due to sudden outbreak of a severe cyclonic storm on Sunday evening several houses, granaries, sheds, govt buildings, electricity lines were damaged in three circles of the district.
Nearly 15 households in Piyong circle were totally damaged and families were rendered homeless. They were immediately evacuated and shifted to a relief camp. They were provided with basic necessities such as rice, vegetables, lamps, blankets etc by the district administration and the department of Disaster Management, Namsai district.
