ITANAGAR, Sep 9: With the decades-old Assam-Arunachal Pradesh boundary matter pending with the country’s apex court, the Durpai Boundary Committee has asked the state government not to construct or install boundaries around Durpai village or on properties belonging to Durpai villagers until final disposal of the writ petition filed before the Supreme Court to stay the execution of the MoU signed between Arunachal and Assam governments on April 20 last year.
The Committee, in its representation to the Chief Minister, claimed that the decision to transfer the Durpai village land to Assam has caused gross and grave injustice to the villagers of Durpai.
‘On dated 20-04-2023, without taking the consent of the villagers of Durpai, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, in respect of 123 villages, and the Durpai Village land, which is part and parcel of the state of Arunachal Pradesh, was planned to transfer to the state of Assam by forming a loop, because according to the state of Arunachal Pradesh, Durpai village is situated beyond the 3km radius of HPTC delineated boundary, which is absolutely illegal on part of the state of Arunachal Pradesh conceptualizing this 3km radius,’ it explained.
