Likabali, Sep 30: The Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS), Lower Siang district unit celebrated its first Foundation Day by hosting a formal function in the conference hall of Likabali Circuit House here today.
Gracing the event, Lower Siang Deputy Commissioner Rujjum Rakshap congratulated the APLS district unit for completing a year in office and expressed hope that the Society would promote writing habits among the people and enrich the literature of the area.
While addressing the gathering, he said that literature reflects the facts and realities of the society which stands proof to the civilizations that we have witnessed. He said, “Literature is a mirror of the society and it can promote racial and gender equality, can spark violence, and bring peace”.
He encouraged the students present to pursue literary activities by making it a habit and be engaged on it consistently for better output in the literary arena. While responding to a memorandum submitted by the APLS district unit requesting for an office room, the DC said that the matter shall be looked into in due course of time.
APLS president, Padmshri awardee Dr Y D Thongchi while delivering the keynote address, said that the APLS was formed in 2006 to provide a platform for the budding literary talents of the state which otherwise were bereft of such opportunity for ventilating their literary outburst. The APLS, he said, is collaborating with the Sahitya Akademi, NBT, Assam Sahitya Sabha, etc for more proactive futuristic ventures.
“A country is known by the cultural heritage, flourishing civilization and the rich literature written down by scholars of the contemporary times,” Thongchi said. “Literature sustains world peace as has been stated rightly that pen is mightier than the sword,” he added.
“The talents that god has bestowed to us should be properly and consistently used and explored to its fullest, Thongchi said while adding that the APLS is planning to expand the area of its functioning in the coming days.
H R Bado, the incumbent president of APLS Lower Siang district unit presented the annual activity report of the Society.
Duri Taipodia, who happens to be the first All India Radio artiste, H R Bado and Koi Taipodia read out their new poems to the thunderous applause of the members.
The prizes for the school level literary competition conducted this year were also distributed to the winners on the occasion. (DIPRO)
