PASIGHAT, Sep 30: A recipe competition was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), East Siang and College of Horticulture & Forestry (CHF), Pasighat to celebrate the National Nutrition Month which concluded today, promoting healthy eating habits and nutritious food choice for communities.
The event aimed to raise awareness of a balanced and nutritious diet to prevent various deficiency diseases due to poor eating habits.
A total of 18 Self Help Groups in the SHG/entrepreneur category and 18 more participants in the individual category showcased their culinary skills by preparing innovative, healthy dishes.
The main objective of the program was to encourage people to adopt healthy eating habits and make informed food choices while promoting the use of local ingredients and other nutritious sources.
Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, Dr Yater Darang, Medical Superintendent, BPGH Pasighat shared her thoughts on the value of nutritious diet for all. She emphasized that a balanced diet is the foundation of a healthy life and it is essential to focus on whole food and locally sourced organic food items.
Her remarks resonated deeply with the audience.
Y J Lego (Padmashri Awardee) shared her experience and use of various medicinal plants for curing various health related disorders in the State. She also shared her inspiring stories from her own journey, highlighting the transformative power of nutritious food with mainly high sources of protein, vitamins in improving health outcomes.
She further encouraged the participants to develop a herbal garden.
Dean in-charge Dr D K Pandey also made his remarks on why it is important to make informed choices as “we are what we eat”.
In the competition, Angun Asir SHG of Rani village, Arda Ane SHG of Tajum and Utgong SHG of Rayang village won the top three honours.
