ITANAGAR, Sep 30: In an effort to send a strong message against the menace of drugs, a walkathon started from the premises of Dera Natung Govt College (DNGC) here today which will reach its destination North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong in a period of eight days, with DNGC Principal Dr M Q Khan flagging off the event.
Undertaken by Welkin Stone Shadap, a student of MSc Botany from NEHU the walkathon themed ‘Healthy Minds, Healthy Lives: Walk against Drugs’ will be completed in eight days.
During interaction with the walkathoner, Dr Khan appreciated the efforts of Welkin and added that he granted permission to start the walkathon from the DNGC simply because the theme of walkathon is very significant and noble as the demon of drugs is spreading like wildfire in the Northeast region including Arunachal Pradesh and the graph of drug addicts is soaring. “This is a prime responsibility of all stakeholders, NGOs, unions, associations, institutions, and parents among others to create awareness against the ills of drugs to save our youths,” said the DNGC Principal.
The NEHU student suggested and encouraged the youths for using their energy in sports, cultural and other positive activities.
All the participants, who participated actively in the event, promised to stay away from any kind of drugs.
The event, coordinated by Phuntso Gombu (programme officer-NSS) and Dr Joba Riba (guest faculty), was attended by faculty members and NSS volunteers of DNGC.
