‘Op Dawn’: Interstate drug peddler nabbed, heroin seized

Itanagar, Oct 1: The Naharlagun Police has, with the assistance of Assam Police, successfully arrested an interstate drug peddler and seized a significant quantity of heroin from his possession.

The arrest was made as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region under the initiative of ‘Operation Dawn’, a senior police officer said on Tuesday.

Naharlagun SP Mihin Gambo said that on Monday, acting on reliable information, a police team led by Naharlagun PS officer-in-charge Inspector Krishnendu Dev raided a location in Dokum Colony, Naharlagun, during which two youths under the influence of drugs were detained.

Upon interrogation, the suspects, who were identified as drug addicts, revealed their supplier’s name as Binod Sharma (28), a resident of Harmoti, Assam. Acting on this information, a well-coordinated raid was conducted at Harmoti, with the assistance of Assam Police. The operation led to the arrest of the primary drug supplier, Binod and the seizure of approximately 12.6 grams of heroin along with his i20 vehicle used in transporting contraband.

The SP said that while the addicted youths have been sent to a rehabilitation center for treatment, a criminal case under the relevant section of the NDPS Act has been registered at Naharlagun Police Station against the primary supplier and further investigations are ongoing.
