ITANAGAR, Oct 1: On the occasion of National Blood Donation Day 2024, a mega voluntary blood donation camp was organized by the Arunachal Life Saving Foundation and the Arunachal Pradesh Police at the DK Convention Centre here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Arunachal Life Saving Foundation chairman Ramesh Jeke said that National Blood Donation Day is being celebrated in a grand way in other states by felicitating the voluntary blood donors who have contributed to the health and well-being of fellow citizens. “But due to lack of communication with the state government we failed to felicitate our donors this year to encourage them and give awareness about the importance of blood donation,” he lamented.
Underscoring the importance of blood donation, he said, it is impossible to produce blood in any laboratory or factory, and it can be collected only through donation. At present, around 300 units of blood are required every day in the hospitals of Itanagar Capital Region. But people are reluctant to donate blood, because of which we can’t fill up the gaps of blood requirements, he added.
“Today, we could collect only 54 units of blood in the whole day…how can we manage if donors do not turn up for donating blood. And due to shortage of blood many people are losing their life,” Jeke said.
He requested everyone to donate blood, not only in blood donation camps but one can also donate blood at their nearest hospital where a blood bank is available, saying ‘your one unit of blood can save the lives of three people after separating three components of blood’.
And donating blood has lots of scientific benefits and also prevents various dangerous diseases, he added.
